Fugitive Dust Monitoring

CityofAmesDFC6Picture2

For over 25 years, SWA has been completing monitoring of fugitive dust emissions from industrial applications (i.e., bulk material production, handling, and storage facilities).  Monitoring can consist of fence line or point source monitoring using realtime or integrating techniques.  Examples of such monitors include:

  • Realtime optical or beta attenuation particulate sensors (Total Suspended Particulates - TSM, PM10, PM2.5, and PM1)
  • Integrating filter deposition particulate sensors
  • Integrating dustfall monitors based upon ASTM standard

The data obtained from fugitive dust and dustfall monitoring can be useful for permitting application, permit compliance, litigation, nuisance complaints diagnostics, and dust suppression system performance evaluation.  Monitoring systems can be used with weather observation systems to enhance the understanding of the local weather's impact on dust emissions and dustfall.
